My autobiography:
#1: A 1984 dark gray Honda Accord (nameless) from 1991-1996, spanning my junior year of high school through college, both in upstate New York. I hate having to qualify the statement "I grew up in New York," with "No, upstate New York," because I really don't like what most people infer from that statement.
My most common trip: Liberty (my childhood hometown) to Ithaca, NY (my college town). It's a not-so-common misconception that my hometown housed the Statue of Liberty, but in actuality, there are very few statues there. Liberty is small town New York in an area of New York formerly known as the "Borscht belt" either for its role as a summer vacation hotspot for New York city-dwellers back when air travel was a true luxury, or for the propensity of its residents to fashion clothing from shredded beets.
Bumper stickers: two, one from my high school (Liberty High), one from college (Cornell University). Both schools had red and white as their school colors, and as a result, I've decided my move to UW-Madison for graduate school was motivated by my desire for consistency. It also meant I never had to purchase new shades of body-paint.
Where is it now? I have no idea. An unfortunate misunderstanding led to its sale in late 1996.
#2: A 1986 red Dodge Lancer EX-Turbo from 1997-1998, for my first two (of many) years of graduate school. This car bore the unfortunate unoriginal name "Lance," which I believe led to its demise in 1998 from a fluid-wasting syndrome... at every point in his lifetime, Lance was leaking at least two of the following: oil, transmission fluid, engine coolant, brake fluid, gasoline.
Most common trip in this car: To a mechanic, obviously. Not too many good memories with this one.
Bumper stickers: Three, all placed there by the previous owner of the vehicle. I did have a couple pretty sweet Looney Toons floormats, though.
Where is it now? I don't know, I don't care. I had it towed off for scrap long ago.
Currently: no vehicle, so I guess the autobiography is over. Now I guess I can stop talking about my cars and start talking about me... probably no more of a compelling story than the above one. To be continued...
